A rant on job hunting

Is there some unwritten law that if a company has to pay to relocate someone they must be more qualified and desirable for the position than the local applicant?

And what's the rational behind this 'sorry you're over qualified' deal? Yeah, I'm so over qualified that I have $20 to my name and $20,000 in debt and am living off the generosity of friends. I have news for you Mr. Corporate America, an 'over qualified' person will stay at your $6 a hour job no matter how much they despise it just to be able to pay bills, keep a roof over their head, clothes on their back, and food in their bellies. Actually supplying medical and dental insurance is gravy when you're penniless. If you're so afraid they'll get a better offer why don't you offer them one?

And trust me, there are no offers beating down my door, better or otherwise.

If unemployment is so low and good employees are so hard to find then why is the local, overqualified applicant with a wide open, flexible schedule (aka: no dependents) apparently unemployable? Is it because I'm female and have a degree in science and experience with computers? Do I emasculate the male employer? Do I pose a threat to female employers because I might be ambitious enough to want their job? Is is that I'm not ambitious enough? Is my lack of husband and children some indicator that I'm not a responsible adult? Is it because my clothes aren't brand new and aren't the height of fashion? Is it because I don't grovel and shoe lick but act as a respectable person and your equal as a human being? Is it because I'm fat? Is it because I wear a ring on my thumb and have two earrings in each lobe? Are my glasses the wrong shape, my hair the wrong color? Am I too desperate?
